The sheepskin from New Zealand with long wool is one of the most popular variants in our product range. The long wool sheepskin rugs from New Zealand are divided into four main colour categories: classic, trend, fun, and pastel colours. The black colour has a beautiful natural shine to it. This is largely because of the premium quality of the sheepskin. Natural shine is one of the aspects that differentiates premium sheepskins from regular quality sheepskins. Additionally, premium sheepskins have a thicker coat and are more durable. If you are looking to keep your sheepskin for many years, investing in a premium product definitely pays off. Premium sheepskins only make about 10% of all sheepskins. Seeing as sheep are never held for their skins, but for the local meat production, no sheep is specifically bred to have a premium quality sheepskin, as sheepskins are natural byproducts. This makes the premium quality so rare and desirable.

Besides the long wool variant, there is also a short wool sheepskin variant from New Zealand. Despite the completely different appearance and feel of the two, they come from the same race of sheep. The differences stem from several aspects: Firstly, the short wool variant sheepskin has sheered wool, thus the much shorter hairs. Secondly, the long wool variant has straightened wool. While the short wool variant has slightly curly wool, the long wool variant has straight wool that feels especially soft. In order to maintain the sheepskin, we recommend to brush it every once in a while, with a sheepskin brush. This way you can assure that the wool remains straight and doesn't become matted. Regular shaking is recommended to remove dirt and dust, and small stains can be removed with a damp cloth.
